A group of 17 employers from the Sydney, Newcastle and Lismore area will travel to Malaysia next week as part of a Defence program designed to encourage employer support for the Reserves.
The employers, including Bovis Lend Lease, Virgin Mobile and Daimler Chrysler, will leave Australia on Monday (28 November) and visit Rifle Company Butterworth, a force of about 160 Army Reservists from New South Wales 8th Brigade.

The Commonwealth Bank is to be congratulated for acknowledging the unique requirements of Defence Reservists in its Military Leave Policy, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence, Teresa Gambaro, said today.
The Defence Reserves Support Council (DRSC) will hold a ceremony at 2.30pm today at the Commonwealth Bank, 100 King William St, Adelaide, to commend the Bank for its long term support of the Australian Defence Force.

Twenty-one Western Australian employers will be recognised for their support of Defence Force Reserve personnel at a special ceremony tonight from 6pm to 8.30pm at the Parmelia Hilton Hotel.
The event, organised by the Defence Reserves Support Council (DRSC), acknowledges employers who have supported the Reserve employees with leave arrangements and other special considerations necessary for them to fulfil their Defence obligations.

Organisations from Sydney, Lismore, Orange and Wagga Wagga will be participating in the activity held at 4/3 Royal New South Wales Regiment, Holsworthy Barracks over the weekend 12 to 14 August.

Employees of the Western Australian State Government will now receive four weeks paid leave per year to undertake Defence Reserve service.

Employers who support Defence Reservists and are committed to releasing them for training and operations can now 'sign up' on-line through a new website service, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence, Teresa Gambaro, said.
Mitsubishi Motors Australia, based in Adelaide, is the first organisation to sign the new Statement of Support. Monarch Industrial Products, a small business based in Queensland, also signed recently.

Some of the Northern Territory's leading employers will take part in Exercise Executive Stretch (EES) later this week.
Alice Springs Town Council, Powercorp, The Professionals, TRAC, the Ombudsman's Office, Projection Plus and the Northern Territory Government's Community Development, Sport and Cultural Affairs Department are some of the organisations involved in the activity from April 14 to16.

Four Queensland Health employees with reserve military experience in Timor, Bougainville and the Solomons recently returned from a two week deployment to Banda Aceh in Indonesia to assist with relief operations following the Asian tsunami.
The EHOs participated in inspections of displaced persons camps with a view to providing UNICEF with recommendations concerning toilets, food supplies water, and pest control. They also organised the destruction off clinical waste from a hospital and undertook pest control operations in their immediate area.The four EHOs in the team led by Russell Manley of the Tropical Public Health Unit in Mackay inspected over 80 camps in 5 days and were selected because of their experience in similar situations experienced overseas with military units.

The work being done by the ADF in the supply and support of camps for the volunteers and in clearing work is very important.
